Gita Gopinath is the new Chief Economist of IMF
The 46 years old Gita Gopinath is the new Chief Economist of IMF, the International Monetary Fund. She is the honorable Professor of Harvard University, born in Mysore, Karnataka India.
She is the second Indian and first woman to achieve this feat after one of the finest economists of the world and Ex-Governor of RBI Mr. Raghuram Rajan.
She will replace the current Chief Economist Maurice Obstfeld who is retiring from the IMF till the end of this year. International Monetary Fund works in the field of exchange rates and providing loans to the countries who are facing financial crisis.
Christine Lagarde, the MD of IMF said in her tweet “Gita Gopinath is an outstanding economist, with impeccable academic credentials, a proven track record of intellectual leadership, and extensive international experience. I am delighted to name such a talented figure as the IMF’s Chief Economist”
